Apple loses legal battle against Samsung in the US, could still win the war

by 127 comments

Apple had filed for a preliminary injunction against Samsung in the US court to block the sales of the Galaxy devices. Unfortunately for Apple, the court has declined to grant the said injunction, which means Samsung can continue to sell their devices in the US. However, the legal war between the two companies is far from over and Apple could still swing this to their advantage.

As it happens, the reason Apple failed to get an injunction against Samsung is that Apple could not prove to the court that Samsung infringing on their patents could cost them irreparable damages. Read more »

by 53 comments

Philips has not had much of a success in the mobile phone segment. Many people don’t even know that they exist in this segment and you can’t really blame them for that. Philips mobile phones so far have been mediocre at best and if you see one you wouldn’t even remember its name in T-minus 1 minute.

Now, however, they have launched a new Android smartphone that is likely to stay in your memory for a bit longer. Say hello to the Philips W920. Read more »

Nokia releases new video for the Lumia 710, welcomes you to the ‘The Amazing Everyday’, whatever that means

by 28 comments

The Nokia 710 is close to launch and so Nokia has released a new video for the device. The video is actually quite similar to that of the Lumia 800 and part of their ‘The Amazing Everyday’ campaign.

The video is very basic and instead of doing anything fancy chooses to talk about some of the salient features of the device, such as the interchangeable back covers, the integrated social networking services, Nokia Maps with the Nokia Drive feature for turn-by-turn voice navigation and the 5 megapixel camera. All of this is matched by snazzy music in the background. Read more »

Siri tested with in-car audio systems, seems to work fine most of the time

by 14 comments

One of the best places to use Siri in the new iPhone 4S is in your car while driving when you can’t be bothered to check the phone’s display every time you have to do something. Now a lot of people pair their phones with the Bluetooth system in their cars, which routes the audio through the audio system speakers and your voice is picked up by a microphone in the car. The question is, does Siri work well with such a system. Turns out it does.

Autoblog tested Siri with a handful of different cars that include couple of Mercedes Benz, a Chrysler 300, a Dodge Charger and a Nissan Maxima. Read more »

by 32 comments

Among all the non-sense product videos that come out these days, the new video for the upcoming Acer Iconia Tab A200 comes as a breath of fresh air.

Instead of shooting it through a cake, taking a dig at the competition or doing some other weird stuff, the video shows people doing things with the tablet that they usually do. Such as watching videos or images on the device or by connecting it to a display, reading ebooks, video calling, etc. Read more »

by 31 comments

Photographer Markus Thompson came across a Canon EOS 1000D off the end of a wharf in Deep Bay, BC while he was scuba diving. Apparently, the camera was lying there for over a year now, since August 2010 to be precise. However, upon closer inspection, Thompson discovered that the SD card inside was still in working condition.

The SD card in question had pictures of a family vacation of some fire fighter in British Columbia and so Thompson decided to put social networking to test and find the owner to return him his images. For this he turned to Google+. Read more »

The new Motorola DROID RAZR ad is waste of a good cake and an egg

by 56 comments

You may remember the DROID RAZR teaser ad that was released before the launch of the device where a bullet slices through a lot of things.

Well, apparently, it wasn’t cool enough for the people at Rogers who created one of their own. Except this time, they used the phone itself instead of a bullet. Read more »

PlayStation Vita will let you stream all your PS3 games, do it at PSP resolutions

by 32 comments

As if we didn’t have enough reasons to buy a PlayStation Vita already here comes another one. Eurogamer is reporting that with the help of a firmware update on the PS3, it will be able to stream all its games wirelessly to a PSVita. As with the PSP before, you will be able to do it from anywhere in the world as long as your PS3 and PSVita are connected to the internet.

But there is a small catch to this. The games will be played at a lower resolution, that of the Sony PSP, which is 480 x 272, which is 1/4th the resolution of the PSVita’s 960 x 544 display. Read more »

Not any more, at least in the UK, where the device has just appeared for pre-order on Sony’s online store for a whopping £499 ($771). Even by UK’s generally high prices that is quite a lot. In fact it is even more than the bigger Tablet S, which costs £349 (and $499.99 in the US). Read more »
