Promo video of LG’s Quick Window leaks, no G2 to claim it yet

Joining in a pile of promo videos for the yet unannounced LG G2 comes a video showing off the LG Quick Window features.

Quick Window is LG’s take on Samsung’s S Cover View, which is a specially designed cover with an opening at the front and a UI modification to go with it. The video shows off LG’s Quick Window giving you weather, calls, music player controls, a number of clocks and the flip cover accessory in many colors. Read more »

Sony Xperia Tablet Z gets Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, refreshed UI

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z SGP321, which is the European LTE version, has started receiving its Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 update from Sony. The update brings centered soft buttons, a notification area on top instead of at the bottom and with quick settings in it.

The status bar is semi-transparent in the lockscreen and there are a number of optimizations and improvements under the hood. Read more »

Samsung distances itself from astroturfing scandal, blames the PR agency

Following this morning’s reportsby a developer who said that a PR firm was trying to pay him to promote a Samsung app contest on Stack Overflow, Samsung has issued a statement, meant to clarify the situation.

In a statement issued to The Verge Samsung says that the incident is “clearly against Samsung Electronics corporate policy”. Samsung denied being aware of the situation initially and said that it cancelled the plans as soon as it found out, and as soon as it found out that a PR firm was offering cash for content, it cancelled the plans The PR agency Fllu’s COO James Yoo, has admitted that prior reports about his firm not working with Samsung has been misleading. Is this the camera module of the cheaper Apple iPhone 5C?

From China comes a camera module pictured in the wild, which is said to belong to the Rumorland-inhabiting “cheaper” iPhone 5C (C for color).

While the image doesn’t come with specifics it is believed to be the same 8 MP unit as the one on the current iPhone 5 and has blue glass up front. Read more »

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is not only an enormous 6.4″ beast of a phablet but it also belongs to a very exclusive group of devices that have the Snapdragon 800 chipset up and running. We got our hands on the device once again and this time we even managed to run a few synthetic benchmarks and see how much of a performance update you are actually getting.

The device should be very zippy courtesy of four Krait 400 cores clocked way up at 2.2 GHz and 2 gigs of RAM. The graphics are dealt with by the latest Adreno 330 GPU, which we’ve heard does a pretty good job. Read more »

Nokia gives us 10 reasons to get excited about the Lumia 1020, all but one photographical

The Nokia Lumia 1020 is a lot of camera for a smartphone and Nokia likes to remind of that. It its latest piece the Nokia Conversations Blog has detailed 10 reasons why the Lumia 1020 is the most exciting name of the season.

The first seven reasons revolve around the brilliant 41 MP PureView sensor and its software. They detail the Pro Camera suite that captures photos “like a pro”, the next-generation optical image stabilization, the versatile shutter speed, which is great for quick shots and bulb photography with long exposure. This one is for straight-up supergeeks with way too much cash to burn so if you don’t fit into the category you may want to skip it. Only a day old, the PureView-driven Nokia Lumia 1020 has got itself the most expensive accessory it could have asked for.

Built by Lehmann Aviation the LA300 is a drone, to which the Lumia 1020 attaches, that can fly as high as 15 kilometers (that’s about 9.3 miles for you Imperial users), for as long as 30 minutes, at speeds of 20-80 km/h (12/49 MPH) and will withstand temperatures between -25 °C up to +60 °C (-13 °F to 140 °F). The only bad thing is the price tag – you’ll need to shell out a whole €4,990, and no that does not include the Lumia 1020. Read more »

Nokia releases Lumia 1020 promo videos, understandably focuses on the impressive camera

The Nokia Lumia 1020 just went live with a 41 MP PureView sensor and 6-element ZEISS lens with optical image stabilization. There’s also a slew of improvements to the Windows Phone camera package to go along with the impressive hardware.

Nokia Windows RT tablet pictured, alleged full Windows 8 version on the way

What we may be seeing here is Nokia’s rumored Windows tablet, which has been doing the rounds in Rumorland for quite a long time now, but is yet to be officially confirmed.

The slate runs Windows RT nd not the full-blown Windows 8. However sources, allegedly close to the situation at Espoo, claim that Nokia may have given up on the RT version (pictured here) and will move its focus to delivering a slate with the full Windows experience. Read more »

Samsung ATIV Q priced at 1,599 Euro in Germany

German retailer Arlt briefly published a pre-order page for the Samsung ATIV Q transformer device with a price of €1,599 with shipping beginning this August.

However the page has gone missing, meaning the device was either sold out or just pulled back for other considerations. Yet, the info stayed online long enough for us to learn the pricing of the hybrid device. Read more »

Nokia buys Siemens shares of Nokia Siemens Networks for €1.7 billion

Nokia has bought its partner’s 50% share of the Nokia Siemens Networks joint-venture for €1.7 billion ($2.2B) and now controls the business by itself.

This was announced today by Nokia itself and the deal is expected to come through by Q3 of 2013. Read more »

Nokia films European Man of Steel premiere with Lumia 925

Don’t worry – no spoilers here! If you haven’t seen Man of Steel yet you should know that Nokia had arranged some product placement deals with the movie producers and has even arranged to have a first-class ticket to the European premiere of the movie.

Official Imgur app launches on Android, still going through checks on iOS

If you’re a fan of Reddit, or memes, or the whole internet comedy via images thing then you’ve probably have or heard or used Imgur’s services. It’s the place to store all your pictures, memes, screenshots, and what not.

And now we’ve finally received an official app straight from Imgur. It’s already available for download on Google Play and is expected to launch on iOS soon, after it’s been thoroughly checked out. Read more »

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra was officially launched just moments ago and Sony, as is its tradition, has promptly posted its first promo videos on YouTube.

The Big Screen, Big Entertainment video is Sony’s roundup of the Xperia Z Ultra’s mouth-watering features. The X Reality display for richer colors and great sharpness, the water-resistance and its uses (naturally there’s a pool involved), Sony has even got a smart cover-type accessory in the video.
