RIM is throwing a BlackBerry media event tomorrow in London and it’s most probably about the UK launch of the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900. We still don’t have the event program confirmed however initial rumors suggest just that.

The launch of the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 is one of the most highly anticipated BlackBerry events this year. Hopefully, the wait will be over and the phone will finally launch tomorrow.

Codenamed Dakota, the BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 comes from the latest generation of BlackBerry phones – those that combine a full QWERTY keyboard with a VGA touchscreen. The Bold Touch 9900 utilizes a 1.2GHz processor and features the latest BlackBerry OS 7. Read more »

Now it’s been a while since we last saw Firefox get a facelift, but you can bet the guys over at the Mozilla camp are hard at work designing the next-gen Firefox.

The design mockups that I am about to show you say a lot about the direction the team is going. The next major Firefox edition will have a minimalistic, button-less face where the various buttons are cleverly situated along the nooks and crannies of the Menu shortcut and the tabs so that less space is wasted.

I really dig the direction the Mac OS version is going in and though I’m not familiar with the current design on this platform, I really hope we see more of that mojo transferred to Windows too. Read more »

I am slowly starting to suspect that Apple is preparing an iPad Pro device, running proper Mac OS. Where do I get that from?

Well, here’s a mental exercise for you. I’m gonna start throwing a bunch of facts and speculations at you and then I’d like to see whether you are not getting the same gut feeling as me. I’m also gonna try and keep it short, alright?

Yesterday, at a press conference announcing Apple’s amazing quarterly results, Peter Oppenheimer, the company’s COO, briefly mentioned there will be a lot going on in the fall and hinted the company had a “future product transition” on the way.

Another bit we took from that conference is that, unsurprisingly, the iPad business is booming. iPad sales are already surpassing Macs in both numbers shipped and in revenue. Apple has a really hot product on their hands. And it makes you wonder – why don’t they expand it even further? Read more »

You don’t offten see a mobile concept as elaborate as this one. The Rimini UI/device combo is a refreshing breeze in the current attrition warefare led by the major mobile OS’s. Though the concept will hardly see daylight in a real product, it is evident a lot of thought has went into creating this interface system that’s unlike any other. Meet the Project Rimino.

Well, if you’ve been following any of the Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 presentation, then you’ve most probably watch Microsoft’s corporate VP, Joe Belfiore, give one of his excellent demos on one occasion or another. Following today’s announcement of the upcoming major update to Windows Phone 7 – Mango or WP7 as it’s now known, there can’t be a better time than watch one of Belfiore’s nice tech demos.

One of the new features introduced with the upcoming Windows Phone 7.1 Mango update is the enhanced Bing search. The Bing search app now offers visual, audio and voice searching. Besides these new options, the search is also enhanced with the Local Scout, that cityscape icon you’ll see on the video. What it does is, make your search location-specific, taking into account your vicinities ang giving pririty to local businesses and locations.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA Mini is the next generation mini smartphone by the company. Dubbed as “the smallest phone to shoot HD video”, this fella is a crowd-pleaser with a 3-inch scratch-resistant Reality display, Android 2.3 Gignerbread, 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, 512MB RAM, a 5MP camera with 720p video recording – all of it packed in a shell that’s a whisker under 100g.

Qwiki is a visual Wikipedia with quite stunning graphics, voice over and subtitles. It uses clever algorithms to mix articles with pictures, maps and infographics to make dynamic, hyperlinked presentation.

As a big fan of Flipboard for the iPad, the first reports on the multimedia rich Qwiki got me hooked right away. I was misled though, Qwiki is no Flipboard, in fact the only similarity between the two apps is the original idea behind them. Yeah, and that both are free.

After months of delays and anticipation, the BlackBerry Playbook will officially go on sale on the 19th of April, people. RIM threw a fancy launch party in New York City to celebrate the event, and we were among the lucky few who got a precious invitation.

The Playbook will begin its sales on April 19th with a starting price of $499.99 (it was initially promised by RIM that the price tag will be below $500) for the 16 Gb Wi-Fi only version. Well, well, well, look who came by to hang out a little with us. It’s been a long time since we first met the Galaxy S II at the MWC 2011 earlier this year, and now the time has come for the Samsung Galaxy S II to be properly previewed away from all the hustle and bustle.

Naturally, being the replacement for the well-known Samsung i9000 Galaxy S, the Galaxy S II has to fit the very large shoes of its predecessor. And judging by the initial impressions from quickly playing around with the device – it does pretty well. The user interface is ridiculously snappy and the phone, despite its mammoth size, feels alive and light. Read more »

I’m not particularly keen on statistics. Unfortunately, tracking the trends in the mobile industry (its winners and losers) requires a heavy dealing with the aforementioned science. The people over at VisionMobile – a mobile industry market analysis and research company, have been kind to present us with graphic expression of the developments in the mobile phone market over the past decade.

It’s somewhat overwhelming to watch the change in ranks for some companies as well as the utter disappearance of others. Especially when I’ve witnessed these industry developments along the years in person. Enjoy the show!

The iPad 2 has officially hit the shelves yesterday. You’d probably want to know that if you weren’t among the guys and gals who queued in front of the Apple Stores at launch you might be left in the dry for some time. If you try to order the slate through the Apple website now you will have to wait between two and three weeks for it to ship. And that’s regardless of the version you want.
