Moreover there are lot’s of devices which have just firmware not any OS.

Linux did not have to “give” anything to Android. Anybody can just take and use it as long as they respect the TOS.

Your TV probably has a linux kernel and you don’t know it. Anything electrical that has a microchip IS linux unless specified otherwise ;)

I think there is a thing called IMEI, which can uniquely identify the activated phone and thus they can keep correct count of activated android products

@twitter-227698412:disqus then, probably, all the phones that have been passed on from one owner to another and all the phones that were bought from another person, and predictebly reseted the phones would add up to a quite big number. And I almost forgot about those whom rootet their phones and changed the Android version, would those be counted as an activation when they reconnect?

So adding up all those and perhaps other scenarios that I didn’t tought about when a phone is activated more than one time (so it’s counted as another phone), how many phones do you think they actually sell?

PS: the article, just as the Twitter post, talks about number of activations, so I’m not quetioning the integrity of those numbers.

@twitter-258756398:disqus, I know it’s just the kernel from Linux, but it acts just like a Linux being open-source and having access to loads of free programs. I didn’t said that it is a Linux distribution, but Linux had to be good in the first place to give it’s kernel to build Android.

“What if after factory reset I and then use another account, would that count as an activation?” – This one am not sure, but I think the answer is yes.
