Guidelines is a good thing. Think of cars, for example: the brake is the pedal in the middle, the steering wheel is (mostly) on the left side, the car turns that direction you turn the steering wheel (not the opposite), you can see through the wind screen and so on.

Think if there were no guidelines in car manufacturing…

I don’t know what are you talking about here. I’ll just assume you meant to ask “Why would anybody care so much about guidelines?”

If you are not a developer, then you don’t need to care about it (as it was pointed out in the first line of this blog entry).

Because it will define the standardization of UI experiences of the OS. It will be easier if user install a new app, and quickly adapted with the UI since the UI experiences offered by that app following OS guidelines. Users wont need to struggle to adapting to new UI experiences every time they install new apps.

Why would anybody so much about guidelines? Everyone wants to get free apps on android market. Why would someone invest more in an app if there will be no profit?
