it does have something to do with apple..amazons kindle fire is competing directly with apples ipad and they both are tech companies..apple is the biggest tech company(also the biggest comopny in the word by market cap) and amazon is the biggest online retailer in the world and amazon sells all apple products.

@ Pantherus aka “The asshole” you have no idea what you are talking about do you?an ipad only costs twice as much as a kindle? do your research please.the 4 P’s? what era are you in? and we’re also talking about apple here not sony or panasonic. apple only needs two P’s. promotion and place. they promote it by getting alot of people talking about it. advertise it in movies and famous people using it. apple aims to sell their products not just for people with lifestyle choices or people that are able to afford it. apple has cleverly tricked just about the whole world that it is cool to get their products. this is due to clever marketing. alot of people cant even afford food or condoms go and buy a fucking iphone just because it seems to be cool. so stupid just like you. actually you are worse. you are even more stupid.

Bruce, Apple aims at customers who are not price sensitive. Ie. they sell to those who are willing to burn excessive amounts of cash for a “lifestyle product”.

Kindle is aimed at the avid reader. (9gag troll face saying “I see what you did there”)

An avid reader is usually a very cultured person, who is not a hipster or a poseur. It’s not cool to pose as a bookworm. Therefore, the driving force behind the e-ink ebook readers is their utility. The ability to read books on it without straining your eyes. It is just that it is sometimes a bit more convenient to have a small, light device instead of lugging around thousands of pages of paper. Not to mention that you don’t cut down half the forest in the process.

As for kindle fire, it is aimed at people who WILL NOT pay twice the amount for iPad or some other high end Tablet.

Eventually, Amazon will be earning on the sales of content. And that content would also be available on other devices, like iPad.

Go study marketing… (Especially the 4 “P”s, Product, Price, Promotion, Place)
