4-inch Galaxy player spotted in the wild, is this copycat policy necessary?

The latest Samsung Galaxy Player, going under the model YP-MB2, is the Android version of Apple’s iPod. It has all the juice of the excellent smartphone Galaxy S, just cut the phone part out.

Samsung Galaxy Player

Don’t get this wrong, it’s an excellent idea to release a powerful Android media player. This Galaxy fella inherits everything from its smartphone sibling. It has the glorious 4-inch SuperAMOLED screen, the 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 512MB RAM and Wi-Fi connectivity. The Galaxy Player is supposed to sport a 3 megapixel camera instead of the 5-megapixel one on the original Galaxy and run on Android Eclair or Froyo.

I understand the 4-inch screen on a handset, but aren’t those pocket players supposed to be pocket-friendly?

The Galaxy Player even looks exactly like the Galaxy S, but with a white rear panel. But then again why make a smartphone without the phone? And why make it the exact way Apple does it?

If there is a reasonable difference in the prices between Galaxy S and Galaxy Player, the latter will be a nice Christmas present. Otherwise it’s pointless.
